Watch "New Power" Video Clip
New Power (26 min) Henry Timms is one of the co-founders (with Asha Curran, current CEO of GivingTuesday) of the GivingTuesday movement. In Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms book "New Power" they contrast old power, which is held by a few and guarded closely, with new power, which is open, participatory, and decentralized. Bonus video: How to Build a Movement.
With your community foundation team, discuss:
- Where does your foundation fall on the matrix of new power and old power? And how might embracing some (or more) of the new power principles impact your community campaign?
Create a Movement Mind Map
Movement Building Exercise (~45 min) The goal of this exercise is to help you pause and reflect on your community campaign by creating a map that captures the key elements of your movement. Work through each section below on your own or together with your community foundation team. Be as specific and honest as possible; the more thought you put in, the more useful this will be as a planning tool.
Once completed, share your mind map with Becky and bring it with you to bootcamp.
